Old Man Dreaming Vista, Residential Design Project
While this was once an unassuming brick and tile home typical of the seventies, the location, aspect and view toward the mountain range known within indigenous culture as “old man dreaming” is nothing short of spectacular. The original floor plan featured a segregated kitchen, and the layout of the living and dining was not orientated toward the beautiful vista.
Our scope included reconfiguration of the kitchen, bathrooms and ensuite, bedroom 1, improve the deck living area and add a two-way fireplace and incorporated selection of all fixtures and finishes. It is always reassuring to observe, when starting a project, that a client has a great aesthetic when you factor in existing items. The ideas and discussion with the clients, brought to life a mid-century vernacular with clean but organic simple undertones.
Once we opened up the kitchen to the living dining, we then resolved what was a long, narrow space with functional and defined zones with focal points such as a bar, media and fireplace zone all equally balanced with the view. A warm, natural and organic palette of timber, hand glazed tiles and colour depth are offset by quality detailed finishes in hardware, lighting and tapware.
As with all our projects, the base palette is still neutral and timeless, but the earthy pops of colour make it an inviting space that more importantly reflects our client’s taste and lifestyle… tailored to be their home!
